Lemme tell you about my commute, because it's actually an interesting drive that I take twice a day. Familiarity may breed contempt, but when we take a step back, the most everyday things are miraculous, right? It's got tunnels, it's got city views! It's got bridges over troubled waters! Or perhaps the waters aren't so troubled, but any body of water is pretty troubling for a car, so the bridges are a key element.

I live up in the Northern reaches of the Seattle area, where you don't have to go too much further before you run out of city. I drive to the Eastern reaches of Seattle, where you don't have to..etc and so on. My work is in a (somewhat) historic town called Issaquah, which is known for...having a dairy, being surrounded on 3 sides by large forested hills (most of which are parks/open space) and being very rainy. The whole area is very rainy, but Issaquah especially seems to get the storms funneled right up to it. My drive takes me north/south on one freeway and east/west on another. Along the way I drive right through the heart of downtown, past a nice view of the Space Needle (and saying "Hi Space Needle!" every time because if I don't, it will uproot its spindly legs and rampage through the city, you see. This is important.), over a very high bridge that spans Lake Union/Lake Washington, and then under parts of downtown including the Convention Center whose hanging gardens of ivy drip down over the freeway. As a kid, I thought this was absolutely magical. Past the two stadiums, the larger of which (Safeco? Where football is played?) is lit up every night with color-changing LEDs that fade from green to blue, which can only be for the Seahawks, I suppose.

Hello, friends in Seattle, or friends who may be traveling to Seattle!

I found a little store in Edmonds, or rather they found me!, that sells fantasy and Steampunk goodies, and they're selling my stuffed dragons and costume wings via consignment. How awesome is that! They're called Otherworlds and are down in the Bowl of Edmonds, within walking distance of the Kingston ferry dock.

We also have an event coming up at the end of June - a Build-a-Dragon evening! It will be like Build-a-Bear, except with dragons! Come down and stuff, wire, and decorate your own draconic buddy (sewed by me) for the low price of $20 a draggie. I'm really enjoying Springtime in Washington state - so many flowers! Phoenix had some flowers...I guess...but not like Washington does! I'm really enjoying those big bold tulips that most people have in their front yards. I wish I could get a bouquet and bring them home, but I know my cat would knock them over and then try to eat the tulips...He's very pretty, but not the smartest cat. Still, he's enjoying Spring, too! There are many more birds and squirrels in the yard, and he loves watching them from the windowsill perches.

I'm pretty sure some of you have read it and love it, too! They've got the author on board and they've got one of my buddies, Tod, working on the art team.
