Welcome to Night Vale Stuffed Dragons

Description

You should know by this point that I'll make a stuffed dragon out of *anything*. Today's flavor of the week is from a glorious little podcast called Welcome to Night Vale, which is essentially NPR from the Twilight Zone. All conspiracy theories are real and the weird is expected in the little town where Cecil the community radio host and Carlos the scientist find romance and adventure.

Why dragons? Well, because it's my schtick. Don't worry, though - hang around and I may have some drawings of these two as humans, once I get up the courage to compete with the artists already out there, and once I learn how to draw hands again.

I based the dragons' colors on various fan-works I found around the internet - since the production is a radio play, there are very few descriptions given of the characters, so people are left to make up their own visions for these guys. The dragons here mostly represent the characters' clothes, because making a dragon-version of a person based on perceived skin tone is tacky and boring. The hair color, though, I figured I'd keep that.

Carlos' little glasses were on the dollar shelf in the craft store, but I made Cecil's headphones out of bottle caps and duct tape! Cecil also has embroidered tattoos which got messier and less controlled the more I stitched. Cecil's albino mop and Carlos' perfect hair are made of feather boas, because these guys are just that fabulous.

There's also been a bit of color-replacement going on here and there, as my poor camera thinks that "unsettling purple" is, in fact, pink. I wasn't really going for a pink dragon. And I find it hilarious that for all the years in Phoenix I was forever scouting locations where I could photograph my dragons in a lush, non-desert location where they wouldn't look out of place. And now I have *these two characters* who *are* from the Southwest...and I'm in Seattle where saguaros are a bit thin on the ground.

Please go listen to the show! It's bringing back the good ol' radio play, but you don't have to tune in to the same bat-time, same bat-station - all the episodes are on iTunes for free!

I'm not familiar with the inspirations behind these, but it doesn't stop me from thinking these guys are 100% pure cute. :XD: I like the swirl designs on the purple one, and the plaid wings of the black one. The little props on both are adorable.
